Well, yesterday Patrick got home from work a little late. While that's not unusual, it also is not unusual for him to be hauling some sort of machinery behind his pickup. Yesterday however, was different. It marks the beginning of our journey into the Farming Kingdom. Unlike so many other days, this piece of machinery is ours. It is a John Deere 537 Baler. Yeah, I know, whatever that means, right? It makes the big round bales of hay that we feed to our cows and horses every winter.
This is really a significant thing, because this is our first purchase of farm equipment for the farm that we will one day be running with Patrick's dad. The reason we started with the baler was because we needed to start cheap. Farm equipment is NOT cheap. While people in the cities everywhere brag about their $80,000 Mercedes or $200,000 sports car I laugh. A brand new combine with all of the extras will cost you a cool $350,000. And we only drive that for 3 weeks out of the year! Beat that bitches! HA! People wonder why farmers are so poor. Well, it's because they have 3 million dollars worth of machinery sitting out in their fields.
This was a good place to start, and it feels great to be starting to get into it a little bit more! Hopefully our next step is purchasing more cows!!!
