Holy Burnin' Bales Batman!!!

This happened last weekend...we were out driving around showing my grandparents all 10,000 of our acres, and came across this burning bale of hay. It was struck by lightning, and thank goodness it only hit one of them. Thankfully a neighbor saw it and called my in-laws house, and they came out shortly with a bunch of shovels to put the fire out.

In this situation, We basically just had to let the whole thing burn...it took about an hour and a half! The bale was so tightly wound that it had to burn layer by layer. And it was hard sitting there watching it burn, knowing it's worth money! This is what keeps our cows alive during winter, and if we don't have enough hay we have to buy more. This one bale of hay is worth about $75.
